Master in Forests and natural Areas Engineering, Professional Focus, 2nd year2
Lecturer :  Frédéric Francis
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Course contents :
Theory on forest pests and diagnosis Effects of weather conditions and other abiotic factors on forest pests (ecology, physiology, dispersion, migration, feeding behaviours, ...)
Monitoring and insect pest identification on morphological and molecular parameters
Pest control
Plant defense mechanisms, biocide natural molecules, semiochemicals
State case studies
Practical identification of potential pests using trapped and collection insects
Learning outcomes of the course :
The objectives are :
- Provide a synthetic view of forest pest specificities (ecologe, physiologe, relations to environment and abiotic factors) ;
- Obtain a global view of different monitoring strategies and diagnostic in order to developp suitable pest control methods including sustainable and economical aspects.
At the end of teaching, the student should be able to :
- Understand the causes and symptoms related to the main forest pests ;
- Assess the pest impact on forest species in relation to entomological bio-agressors and biotic and abiotic factors;
- Assess the risks related to the different pest group and usefulness to act;
- Assess the diversity and availability of pest control methods according to the situations (host and pest species)
- Select the most adapted pest control strategy including socio-economical aspects
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
