Course contents :
 |
| The course includes five sections:
1. Environmental impact assessment of projects and plans: its purpose, procedures, actors, legal references;
2. Two examples of environmental impact assessment of projects and plans: content, general methodology and concepts;
3. Lectures given by experts on specific themes of impact assessment (mobility, acoustic, landscape...): relevant issues, methods, specific assessment criteria and tools, legal framework, data sources;
4. Lecture given by a project manager about his job as environmental consultant: project management from the offer to legal decisions;
5. Workshop: a case study |

Learning outcomes of the course :
 |
| Train to implement an environmental impact assessment:
- by understanding the role of environmental impact assessment in territorial planning conception and decision procedures ;
- by knowing legal references and principles from European and Walloon law;
- by understanding the methodology and structure of environmental impact assessment;
- by learning legal, methodological and technical basis of impact assessment in specific themes presented during the course;
- by being able to define the content of an impact assessment for a specific project, to identify the most relevant impacts, to use specific assessment methods and technics. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| The teaching is illustrated with examples of projects and environmental impact studies. More specific themes are presented by experts and project managers. This also aims to illustrate the day to day work of a environmental consultant.
A workshop provides an opportunity for students to practice environmental impact assessment with a case study. |
