Course contents :  
The class begins with an introduction whose purpose is to set the matter of property and real rights within the Belgian legal system. Then, from the basic distinction of things and rights into chattels and real estates and from the fundamental notions of possession and detention, the mechanism of acquisitive prescriptionis explained, along with other ¿original ways of acquiring property¿. Afterwards, we address the subjects of property (especially the matters of accession, demarcation and close), of co-ownership and, above all, of joint ownership. Finally, an analysis will be made of the important real right of easement, easement created by man as well as the most frequent statutory easements.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The main aim of the class is to provide the students in geomatics with basic notions in real estate and ¿main¿ real rights in a civil law approach. Priority is given to issues arising from actual practice.

First semester : two times (two hours) a week.

Book : P. Lecocq, Manuel de droit des biens, t. I, Biens et Propriété, Bruxelles, Larcier, 2012, and two syllabi.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Final oral examination. Civil Code and other legal dispositions are necessary.
