Law and Health

Medical and biomedical law : - relationship between physician and patient, medical contract, patient's rights (informed consent), medical file, incapacitated patients, medical confidentiality - medical liability and negligence (fault/no fault, prejudice, causation) - specific medical procedures : sterilization, abortion, assisted reproduction, euthanasia, forensic medicine, removal of blood, organs and bodily material, biomedical research

Bioethics and societal medicine

The student will integrate the basic and advanced concepts leading to the optimization of his/her interaction with health professionals and patients. He/she will integrate the ethical dimensions helping him/her to better take into account the global societal challenges that will help to improve his/her diagnostic and therapeutic armamentarium. Participative and proactive interaction would be considered as the basis of the course.

Computing and Health

Basics of health informatics and telematics with emphasis on medical data confidentiality and security.

Learning outcomes of the course :

Understanding and identifying legal aspects of a healthcare relationship Balancing applicable notions and sometimes competing obligations Reasoning with regard to liability and negligence Advising practitioners in problematic situations

Bioethics and societal medicine

The experiences of the learning have to be : "Arrange ethical and thical bases, allowing to develop a humanist reasoning in front of social problems met in a common way in the practice of health care"

Computing and Health

Give students an overwiew of modern information and communication technology (ICT), in particular heath information systems.

The teacher's synthesis book (Droit médical et biomédical, Larcier, 2010) is a required complementary reading on the aspects developed during the oral course

Assessment methods and criteria :

First session (January) : written exam combining restitution and personal analysis Second session (September) : oral exam

Bioethics and societal medicine

A note of 3 points on 20 will be granted for every presence to six lessons A note of 2 points will be reserved for the teacher's assessment or the teachers according to the participative approach of the students For the second session, the student will have to realize a personal work of 25 pages, in one of the themes which will have been approached, during the teaching of the concerned academic year. The work must be put back in duplicate before August 15th, on one hand to Professor Boxho and on the other hand, to Professor Reginster
