Course contents :  
1) The design of small boats and fast boats
Hydrodynamics of semi-planning hulls and planning-hulls: speed coefficients, lift-coefficients, wet length, ... Definitions of fast boat shapes: shapes, floor timber measurements, redan dimensioning, ... Dynamic stability. Elements of alternative propulsion : waterjet, outboard, Z-drive. Practical design aspects.

2) Sail boats
Theory: balance of a sailboat (tailwind and downwind). Stability : weight, shape, global and initial.
Multi-hull stability : catamaran and trimaran.
Floatability and longitudinal stability. Resistance to advance, planing, anti-drift force. Combination hull-sail and stability.
Practical design aspects.
