Course outline:
Reviewing students' knowledge (nomenclature, the mole , the expression of concentration , the stoichiometry )
Chapter 0 - General Introduction
Chapter 1- Introduction - matter - measurement
Chapter 2 - Atomistic
Chapter 3 - Electronic configuration - properties of atoms - the periodic table
Chapter 4 - The chemical bonds
Chapter 5 - Bonding theory and molecular geometry
Chapter 6 - States of matter and intermolecular forces
Chapter 7 - The chemical kinetics
Chapter 8 - Introduction to chemical equilibria
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
- Understand the structure and basic properties of atoms
- Describe the main types of chemical bonds
- Interpret simple phase diagrams
- Understand the phenomena of reaction equilibrium
- Understand and apply the basics of chemical kinetics
- Solve problems related to the previous points
- Gain practical experience basis for the realization of the laboratory manipulations
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Chemistry program of secondary education (one period / week).
Students who do not benefit from this course are invited to look at the chapters 1-3 of the book "General Chemistry" J. Hill, A. Petrucci , T. McCreary , S. Perry, Prentice Hall , 2nd edition .
The review of knowledge module available on eCampus and delivered at the beginning of academic year can review and fix the fundamentals of chemistry.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Theoretical part: written or oral exam
Practical part (exercises) : written exam
Practical part (laboratory) grades including the entrance test and the laboratory report.
Attendance at labs is mandatory. If unexcused absences, participation in exams will be denied to the student.
 
New-coming students: Theory (45%) , practical exercises ( 40%), laboratory practice (15%)
