| BIOL0026-1 | Vegetal cellular physiology

| Duration : | 30h Th, 20h Pr |
| Number of credits : |
| Lecturer : | Patrick Motte |
Language(s) of instruction :
| French language |
Organisation and examination :
| Teaching in the second semester |
Course contents :
| The main aim of the lectures is to illustrate the uniqueness of the plant cell at different levels of organisation. Although basic biochemistry is conserved among eukaryotes, students should be able to understand the plastic response of plants at both cellular and molecular levels. |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| In the first part of the course, a variety of topics will be discussed to emphasize the uniqueness of the plant cell : membrane, plastid organelle, vacuoles, endomembrane system, cytoskeleton and the cell wall. The functional aspects of the cellular compartments are highlighted : membrane transport, photosynthesis, cell-cell communication,...
The second part is devoted to the cell differenciation and histology with the description of some tissues.
In the last part, the cellular concepts explained in the previous chapters are used to describe the whole plant and the mineral nutrition, carbohydrate metabolism and long-distance transport. |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| Practical courses are given during 7 afternoons and concern: vizualisation methods, mineral nutrition and metal homeostasis, the plant cell, plant growth and hormones, photosynthesis.
Students are organized in two series. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| Lectures of 1.5 h given during the second quadrimestre (Mondays 10:30-12:00; Fridays from 7th week, 8:30-12:00). |
Recommended or required readings :
| Lectures are given by using laptop and presentation software which allow a wide distribution of the diaporamas. |
Assessment methods and criteria :
| Examination details will be defined at the beginning of the academic year. |
