Course contents :
|
| The course is divided into two parts. The first consists in a general approach to major aesthetic theories as these have been developed from Antiquity up to the present day. The second part has to do with architecture and the specific problems encountered in architecture as an artistic activity. The particular themes treated will vary from year to year (architecture and its relation to other arts ; architecture and space ; architecture and time, etc.). |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| To allow students who do not specialize in these subjects to familiarize themselves with philosophical thought and with the employment of its concepts in the area of aesthetics, and particularly with regard to aesthetics as applied to architecture. At the same time, students should learn something about other arts (and the theory connected with them) that have exerted or still exert an influence on architecture. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
|
| Groups of 2, 3, or 4 students will do oral presentations in class in the second part of the course. The presentation will have to do with an aspect of a selected theme. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| Length of course : 60 hours during the 2nd quadrimester.
Class location and schedule : first part, Lumière room, Tuesday from 17h to 19h; second part, Building B52 (room to determine every year), Tuesday from 10h to 12h. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
|
| Oral examination (May-June) figured in with a grade based on the group presentation made eariler in the course. The two grades will be averaged together. Oral examination (August-September). |
