Course contents :

| This course falls within the subjects of Unit 1 'Sciences and Techniques' and is preparation for the technical application courses and workshops given in the MASTERS cycle.
The course is based upon and developed with the B3 workshop leaders with a view to ensuring interdisciplinarity. This course focuses on the workshop project(s) being developed and reflects upon the project underway, both from a constructive and a structural point of view. To a much lesser extent than in M1/M2 in similar courses, special techniques will possibly be addressed.
This consists of understanding that structure and construction are not values in themselves but are necessary to architecture as a means of ensuring coherence, thoroughness and hence an optimal technical result. Investigation will also focus on the correlation which exists between materials/techniques/systems/structure and architectural expression. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| The learning outcomes are as follows:
Ø to enable an understanding of the relationships which exist between constructive, material and technical systems and performance and architectural expression.
Ø to contribute to the workshop project by focusing greater attention on structure and technique, identifying opportunities for strengthening or challenging the architectural project.
By the end of the year, students should be able to demonstrate, independently of their basic knowledge of subjects, materials, production and implementation methods relating to the various stages of building construction, that they are capable, in relation to the subject taught, of:
Ø understanding and thus analysing a complex construction
Ø imagining and thus reasoning and constructing
Ø communicating and thus clarifying and summarising through drawing and writing |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| - understanding of materials relating to the CONSTRUCTION and STRUCTURE courses in the Bachelor's cycle.
- knowledge and mastery of architectural drawing conventions. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
|
| The course will be delivered jointly by one or two lecturers, in the lecture hall and/or workshop, in combination with projects developed in the workshop. The programme may be interrupted and/or occasionally modified by specific classes or parts of classes relating to these projects. |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| Documents to be submitted are to be defined with the leaders of the B3 architecture project workshop and specific requirements will be communicated during the year, as the workshop projects are observed. The assessment relates only to this course and the focus will be largely upon substance rather than form; assessment will be in the form of a single grade at the end of the year. |
