Course contents :  
Concepts and theories developed over time, and particularly from the 1970s and 1980s will be discussed . Of particular interest will be approaches focussing on the ideas and uses of kinship, as well as work on variations of kinship in different parts of the world, international adoption, "new" configurations of the parent (reconstituted families, medically assisted procreation, GS, etc.).
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Students will be critically aware of the latest theoretical developments in the subject as well as current debates around it. They will be able to deal with ethnographical information from their ethnographic fieldwork through two kinship diagrams in a critical manner.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
To have followed Part 1 of the course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Class, debates and exercises with the theoretical and methodological tools presented in class (definitions of kinship, diagrams and vocabulary of the anthropology of kinship).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Lectures.The course will take place in the first term.
Recommended or required readings :  
Students will receive articles and extracts from publications, reading of which is compulsory. They will also have to read other publications to write their essay.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Students will send me questions about their readings (portfolio). They will make two short presentations on their ethnographic fieldwork during class and will draft a final written report based on their ethnographic fieldwork and readings (instructions concerning these two exercises will be given in class).

Students are allowed to do only one ethnographic fieldwork in "Anthropology of migration" and "Anthropology of kinship" patim 2.
