 | Part 1: Carbon footprint and energy saving in agriculture
In its firts part, course aims to provide theoretical bases necessary to the carbon balance setting up, at the scale of farms specialized in vegetal or animal finality. The course describle different levels emitting or picking up carbon, their importance on the balance, their variation sources and their interactions. The course insists on the prevalence of spatial and temporal scale on carbon balance of farming activities, depending on their fooding, energetic and environmental finality. It also depicts the complexity of biological process involved in farming, at the scale unit of the animal and the parcel, regarding the whole planet.
Part 2: Agricultural mechanization and energy
Agriculture became more largely mechanized during the last 50 years, including a major fossile fuel consumption. Energy costs raise and profit margins decrease for agricultural production imply a careful attention on this point. |

The course aims to give the student a better understanding of parameters of the fonctioning and use of agricultural machinery influencing fuel consumption and means of action. The course will also advice students on current data on this subject and future outcomes (energetic classification of tractors, eco-friendly driving teaching, ...) |

 | The objective is to offer students a global understanding of the operating parameters that influence enery consumption an the mean to act on it.
The offers an insight to present situation in this sector and global trends (energy classification scheme of tractors, low consumption drive,...)
After the course, the student must understand the energetical and technical issues in the field of agriculture mechanisation. He must be able to produce a bibliographical review on a specific topic and draw conclusions for future energetical policy. |

Personnal project: critical analysis of a publication about the carbon balance setting up for farming systems (publication portfolio will be provided by teacher, and the student is supposed to make some personal investigation).
Part 2: Agricultural mechanization and energy
Theorical courses (8h) including an test bench assay with a tractor and result analysis at the CRA-W in Gembloux. |
