Course contents :  
This 75-hour special didactics course is composed of several modules:
  • Mind maps and their use in teaching
  • Presentation of the most commonly used curricula in high schools by AESS Health students
  • Epistemology and epistemological approaches: uses in teaching
  • How to prepare a lesson
  • Documentary research
  • Skills to work on in order to teach
  • Oral communication
  • Medical communication
  • Microteaching
  • Reflective practice
  • Written, verbal and non-verbal communication
As well as the 75 hours of special didactics, there are 70 hours of placement relating to the didactics of health sciences:
  • Observation placements (20h)
  • Teaching practice (20h)
  • Extra-curricular activities (10h)

Learning outcomes of the course :  
Ø General course objective: ü At the end of this course, every student will be able to mobilise all the necessary skills in order to successfully teach high school students Ø Operational objectives: To achieve the general objective, students will be able to: ü Prepare a lesson according to a give framework ü Teach this lesson ü Reflect upon their professional practices (self-assessment) ü Refer to reliable bibliographical or internet sources ü Set objectives to be achieved in their teaching ü Use discretion when deciding on a curriculum ü Work in a team ü Communicate effectively in the medical domain

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
None. The students' experiences acquired during their placement will provide the material for the practical reflective classes.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Ø For AESS students, the assessment (out of a total of 350) will be divided as follows: ü Placements: /150 ü Lecture: /100 ü Reflective practices: /40 ü Communication exercise: /20 ü Written exam: /20 ü Attendance: /20 Ø Conditions for passing the course: ü Students will be given a fail if they do not succeed in their placements and/or the lecture.
