Course contents :  
This seminar consists of a series of lectures and conferences given by specialists on contemporary China, followed by discussions around the themes treated. Each theme will be preceded by readings. The themes covered in particular will be:
- the issue of the links between the political system and the law ;
- the development of civil society;
- the role of China in Asia and Africa;
- the issue of the model of development and its sustainability;
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The seminar aims to allow students to deepen their knowledge of the major challenges of development and population in the People's Republic of China, in order to highlight them in their professional lives.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The students will prepare assigned readings and will give presentations on the thematics studied. Reading materials will be available on the webpage of the course and at the university press.

Recommended or required readings :  
A wide range of ethnographic material will be used (posters, slogans, official documents, press cuttings, scientific articles, popular literature, video documents etc.) as well as photographs will be shown in slide shows (Powerpoint).

A collection of scientific texts will be made available to students. These should be used as reading material to prepare for each class.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
The exam will consist of an oral and written presentation relating to the themes covered.
