Course contents :  
Définitions : Heat and temperature Principle zero First law : Application to specific transformations, Internal energy. Second law : Cyclic transformations, efficiency, Carnot engine, Entropy, Gibbs free energy.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
  • Initiation to scientific reasoning.
  • Initiation problem resolution (translation in a formal language, resolution of the formal problem, solution analysis and interpretation).
  • Learning of orders of magnitude and approximations.
  • Learning of fundamental physics laws.
After completing the course the student is expected to apply the first and second laws of thermodynamics to open and cyclic transformations.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Secondary school : French and Mathematics courses.
