Course contents :  
Exploration of the Latin literary production of the Middle Ages through a close reading of excerpts from texts, especially narratives, from different epochs and regions. Particular attention will be paid to Latin traditions that are at the origin of and / or flank the main Romance traditions between 1100 and 1350, and the interaction of the literary systems involved.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Reading and comprehension of a medieval Latin text with the help of a dictionary. Comprehensive overview of the history and geography of a few key traditions of the Latin Middle Ages, conceptualisation of the problem of their spread across Europe, and in some cases across the world. Consideration of the stylistic, thematic and symbolic relations between Latin and Romance works.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Basic knowledge of classical Latin.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Work on texts using different critical editions. Comparison of Latin texts with those in Romance languages. Use of online resources.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Lectures and seminars.

A dossier and full bibliography will be provided during the course.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Final oral exam. Discussion of the contents of the paper (50%), presentation of an original work prepared by the student on a subject agreed with the professor (50%).
