Course contents :
 |
| Theory of Dutch phonetics (with numerous exercises on pronunciation exercises and phonetic transcription), including terminology. The theory of Dutch syntax (basic principles of constructing sentences and syntactic analysis, with numerous exercises), including terminology. Widening the vocabulary (including prepositions, abbreviations, expressions and proverbs) with numerous exercises. Reading and comprehension of texts taken from Dutch and Flemish newspapers. Oral expression (conversation) and written expression (summaries, compositions). Revision of basic Dutch morphology with numerous exercises. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Basic concept of Dutch or knowledge of German. If required, this course can be linked to other curriculum coures: Subsequently: Dutch Language II. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| Practical work: repetitions, language lab work. Pronunciation and conversation exercises with the teaching assistant. Revision of basic grammar and composition correction with the teaching assistant. |

| Timetable and session: 90 hours (30 hours of theory and 60 hours of practical work) - 1st and 2nd quarter.
