Course contents :  
The purpose of the course is to allow students who did not study Greek in secondary school (or who did so only very briefly) to be introduced to the Greek language. Systematic study of noun and verb morphology and elementary concepts of syntax.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To reach as complete a mastery as possible of the morphology and syntax of Greek, in order to read Greek texts as quickly as possible.

  • E. Ragon - A. Dain - J.A. de Foucault - P. Poulain, Grammaire grecque, Paris (the most recent edition).
  • J.-M. Renaud - P. Wathelet, Autonoos. Le grec ancien pour grands débutants, 2 vol., CIPL, 2003 [available from the L.L. Classiques secretariat].
  • S. Byl, Vocabulaire grec de base.
  • 1 set of exercises for the first semester and another one (with corrections) for the second semester: on line.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Regular tests on vocabulary, nominal and verbal morphology and syntax. Written and oral exam: vocabulary, verbal forms, grammatical sentences, translations.
