Course contents :  
Level 1 consists in bringing the students up to the required level of general English as well as basic specialty English.
The main topics we are going to deal with are : 1/ Energy 2/ Food 3/ Education.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, the student will reach the Level B1+ of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages as far as listening, reading and summary writing skills are concerned.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
It is recommended to have at least the A2 level in English on the reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Each of the 3 topics includes many activities such as: a. reading and listening comprehension b. summary of scientific articles c. grammar and vocabulary exercises.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course will include face-to-face teaching as well as self-learning activities (e-campus).

We strongly recommend that Level 1 students get the following reference books:
MURPHY, Essential Grammar in Use. English Edition with Answers and CD Rom (ISBN 978 05 21 67 54 37)
MC CARTHY & O DELL, English Vocabulary in Use Elementary with Answers and CR Rom (ISBN 978 05 21 13 62 04)
Assessment methods and criteria :  
The final Level 1 grade will be calculated as follows: Reading (20%) Listening (20%) Writing a summary (30%) Vocabulary (10%) Grammar (15%) Personal work (5%)
