Course contents :  
  • Introduction and mechanisms of alteration
  • Erosion and transport
  • Deposition, granulometry of sediments and sedimentary structures
  • Post-sedimentary evolution
  • Detrital sediments
  • Continental and marine carbonates
  • Bioconstructions
  • Organic sediments, siliceous deposits
  • Phosphorites and iron sediments
  • Evaporites, volcanosedimentary deposits.
Practical work or fieldtrip will be organized.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To acquire the basics of sedimentology and sedimentary petrology: understanding of sedimentary processes and interpretation of sedimentary rocks.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
General geology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Lectures with pictures, movies and rock samples. Practical work on rock samples and thin sections. Optional fieldtrip.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Face-to-face. Lectures in lecture rooms of buildings B18 or B20.
