Course contents :  
The course approaches victimology through ex cathedra courses handling the following subjects: 1) Emergence of the concept of victimology: - Historical approach: analysis of victim's position in the trial. - Sociological approach: analysis of the increasing victim's representations in our contemporary societies. - Semantic approach: analysis of the evolution of the concept, the implicit contents (in particular symbolic and religious contents) in current definitions. 2) Criminological approach in victimology: - Analysis of the main currents in victimology (the first scientific victimologist, the feminist contestation, victimization surveys, the current approaches). 3) Legal and social evolutions concerning victims:
- European policies in favor of the victims. - Evolution of the Belgian law in favor of the victims and the position of the victim in the various times of the criminal procedure. 4) Victimology in Belgium: - Institutional Analysis of resources helping victims of criminal acts in Belgium. - Evaluation of victim-oriented policies in Belgium, victim's needs and risks of secondary victimizations. 5) Approach of psychosocial consequences connected to various forms of victimization.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
-          Gain a good basic knowledge of the field of victimology and understand concerns related to victims in a criminological perspective.
 
Being able to link knowledge in a transverse reading and to restitute in a synthetic and integrated manner.
