Course contents :  
The course is divided into four parts:
- The police as a concept: police violence
- The police as a model: local police
- Changes to the police machinery: police hybridisation and private security
- References in the French police system
Learning outcomes of the course :  
This course offers a criminological reflection on the police in contemporary democratic societies. It is based on the main research carried out, highlighting its methodological and theoretical contributions. Based in particular on the French experience, it deals with different questions linked to the plan to understand the police and the policing function as a subject of research.
