Course contents :

| This course helps first year students to design and develop their dissertation project.
During the first part (10 hours), there are general presentations on the different aspects of research methodology: what is a research field? What is a research issue? How to develop the theoretical framework within which the issues are placed? How to build a body of knowledge? What is an analysis? What is an hypothesis?
During the second part, students build their research project with their director |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| General objectives: to acquire an effective and efficient way of working which can immediately be used in the end of year dissertation.
Specific objectives: at the end of the course, students will have built solid foundations for their research, set out in a 20 page "dissertation plan", upon which they can then build their end of year dissertation. |

| The final piece of work consists of drafting a "dissertation plan", around 20 pages long, which serves as an examination. |
