An information session will be held on Tuesday 17 September 2013, 11.00-12.00 (room A2, 4/15).
First session: to be determined
This course combines a theoretical approach to the basic structures of modern Chinese with a focus on the practical dimensions of communication.
The textbook used is Méthode de chinois (Premier niveau), Isabelle Rabut et al., Collection Langues Mondes. This textbook focuses on communication and draws a sharp distinction between oral and written Chinese. Students will be required to take part to communication exercises based on daily interaction situations. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
 |
| This course aims at:- allow the students to become acquainted with the structures of Chinese sentences;
- developing a communication ability in modern Chinese. The focus will be put on oral, listening as well as reading skills. At the end of the two semesters of class, the goal is to allow students to become familiar with a series of everyday communication situations as well as to master the basic grammatical structures of modern Chinese. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| Work in small groups will fostered for all activites geared towards communication.
As for grammar and lexical explanations, these will be taught ex cathedra by the professor.
Students will learn written Chinese chiefly by using keyboards. Most of the work regarding the production of characters will be done at home by the student. |

| In additon to ordinary classes, students will have the opportunity to go to the multimedia lab of the Confucius Institute in Liege, rue de pitteurs, 20, 4020 Liège (Bât. L3) |

Assessment methods and criteria :
 |
| Students will be assessed according to the follwoing criterias:- oral skill;
- listening comprehension skill;
- mastering of the basic structures of syntaxes in modern Chinese;
- mastering of the basic notions of grammar in modern Chinese language. |

Work placement(s) :

| Students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships at the Confucius Institute in Liege. These scholarships are of two kinds:1. Intensive training scholarships (4 weeks) during the summer 2013
2. One academic year scholarships.
