Course contents :  
This course aims at providing the students with the appropriate information to help them decide whether they will follow - or not - the didactics orientation of the master in chemistry. Whatever their decision, this course will provide them with generic communication competences. The following topics and activities are foreseen:

(i) The competence pedagogy in the secondary school system of the French-speaking Community in Belgium

(ii) Experimental approaches in science education, with emphasis on chemistry curriculum

(iii) Preparation of a small-scale didactics practicum where the students will have the opportunity to apply the approaches alluded to above [points (i) and (ii)]

(iv) An introduction to the history of chemistry
Learning outcomes of the course :  
(i) This course provides the students with the relevant information to decide whether they will follow the didactics orientation of the master in chemistry.

(ii) This course aims also at developing generic communication skills.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Basic knowledge of general chemistry

5 x 2h-teaching periods 2 laboratories (3 + 2 hours)

Written material will be made available.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
The assessment will be based on the quality of a seminar given by the students at the end of the course.
