Presentation

The Advanced Master is organized in collaboration with the Free University of Brussels.
It aims to provide the student with knowledge, skills and attitudes to deal with many specific problems in hospitals. It prepares the pharmacist to conventional tasks such as acquisition, preservation, preparation and dispensing of medication in the particular context of this sector, quality of care and the best use of available resources. Moreover, it forms the student for more specific tasks, imposed by existing legislation in order to optimize the use of drugs in the hospital : clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical care, quality assurance, therapeutic form , pharmacovigilance, information, recommendations, applied research.

The subjects taught are adapted to the recommendations of the European Union's consultancy committee on specialisations in pharmacy. Moreover this qualification allows the pharmacist the possibility of obtaining official recognition as a hospital pharmascist, in terms of the regulations of 11th June 2003 edited by ministerial decree of April 21, 2010.

Duration
|
The programme includes one year of study ideally staggered over two years in order to meet the requirements of theory and practical training in hospital environments, which are required to receive the specific professional title of hospital pharmacist.

Admission conditions
The Complementary Masters in Hospital Pharmacy is accessible to individuals holding a Belgian pharmacist degree (pre-Bologna) or a Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Bologna grade) or a degree issued by a country in the European Union which is recognised as equivalent or judged by the Admissions Committee to be worth a minimum of 300 credits. The Complementary Masters in Hospital Pharmacy is accessible to individuals holding a Belgian pharmacist degree (pre-Bologna) or a Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Bologna grade) or a degree issued by a country in the European Union which is recognised as equivalent or judged by the Admissions Committee to be worth a minimum of 300 credits.

Enrolment in the Masters is conditional upon receiving a grade of at least 12/20 during the selection process. Selection methods have been set out by the interdisciplinary jury. Selection of candidates is based on different criteria, grouped into three categories :
- the curriculum vitae (50%);
- motivation (30%);
- professional career (internships and/or professional experience) (20%).

Candidates' motivation is assessed during an interview which takes place in the University, whereby the candidate presents his or her request for admission before a specific jury for each partner university. This specific jury consists of members of the Management Committee, an academic member of the Faculty of Medicine (for ULg)/the Faculty of Pharmacy (for ULB), and two hospital pharmacists within a university or non-university hospital.

The law does not allow holders of a pharmacy degree obtained outside the European Union to practice on Belgian territory.
