Course contents :  
- Definition and diversity of cultural associations.
- Complementary and combining ability of associated components.
- Comparative measure in biological efficiency.
- Agronomical aspects : soil fertility and fertilization, diseases, pests and weeds.
- Plant breeding for cultural association.
- Socio-economical aspects.
- Case studies for various agroecological situations.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To describe the diversity of cultural associations in lowland and highland tropical regions, to understand their physiological and socio-economical principles and to develop factors of varietal and phytotechnical improvement.
After completing the course the student is expected to
-analyse the varietal and cultural components of crop associations
-criticize the mechanisms of cooperation and competition among associated crops
-discuss specific improvements of cultural associations in the tropics
