Learning outcomes of the course :  
To explain the various methods of plant diseases, pests and weeds control as well as the significant properties of the pesticides (toxicology, biological activity, persistence, ways of degradation, ¿). To present the bases of the classification of the products and the Belgian and European regulation (homologation). To study the biological activity of the insecticides, the fungicides and the herbicides.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- To situate the use of the plant protection products within the European regulation framework, in the respect of food safety, worker exposure and durable plant production
- To know the regulation and to understand the requirements relating to the placement on the
market of the plant protection products
- To be able to select an protection method effective and respectful of the environment
- To be able to choose a plant protection product considering his biological, chemical and environmental properties
