Course contents :  
Pharmacognosy (partim 1) is mainly focused on phytochemistry: presntation of various kinds of primary (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins ) and mainly secondary metabolites (phenylpropanoids: lignans, flavonoids, coumarins.., terpenoids and steroids, alkaloids...)
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To treat the education of pharmacy students in the multidiciplinary field of pharmacognosy:-informations on phytochemical classes and metabolites (active principles mainly) ;-description of plants used not only in medicine but also in food and cosmetics; -specific methods of quality control of pharmacognosy described in European Pharmacopoiea ( drugs, extracts, essential oils, fixed oils...)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Practicals and seminars:
Extraction , identification and assay of active principles from medicinal plants (monographs of European Pharmacopoeia).
TPs schedule: Monday: 13.30-17.30 Tuesday: 8.30-12.30 ; 13.30-17.30
LOCATION: Practicals: Laboratory of chemistry ( 4th floor) of the Pharmaceutical Institute (B36).
Seminars: Laboratory of pharmacognosy - Microscopy room - ( 3th floor) of the Pharmaceutical Institute (B36).
