Course contents :  
History of western music and the beginnings of plainsong at the end of the Renaissance. The main stages in writing music, the functions of music and its societal conditions.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Knowledge of the major facts concerning the history of western music from 600 to 1600, both from a theoretical (names, concepts, dates, etc.) and a practical point of view (identifying the main trends through listening).
