Course contents :  
The course will begin with an introduction to the historical and sociological background to the literatures of the African diaspora and the theorical questions that they raise. The rest of the course will be devoted to the discussion of selected poems, short stories and novels, particularly to the way these address Africa.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, students are expected to master the main theoretical notions pertaining to the study of the African diaspora. They will be able to use these notions in the textual analysis of literary works from this literary tradition.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
A very good knowledge of English.

Some poems, essays and short stories will be available at the beginning of the course.

Written essay and oral examination.
