The listening comprehension consists in:
  • listening and understanding the dialogues from Nieuwe Start 2
  • listening and understanding several audio/video documents
The reading comprehension consists in:
  • reading and understanding the texts from the book Nieuwe Start 2
  • reading and understanding articles from the newspaper 'Wablieft'
The oral expression consists in:
  • questions and answers
  • roleplays
  • presentations and small debates
The writing expression consists in:
  • writing e-mails, letters, ...
  • summarizing texts
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language as well as the basic structures of the Dutch language. This course aims at developing the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, oral and written expression, with particular emphasis on oral expression.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
This course is aimed at the students who took the course LANG 1908-1 (e-learning course in Bac 1) and who reached the level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
grammatical theory active participation of the students in the questions and answers, roleplays and debates practicals (dialogues, texts, exercises; presentation of articles; writing of e-mails, letters, summaries) lab sessions
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
face-to-face 2 hours 2 times a week during the 1st semester 2 hours a week during the 2nd semester
Recommended or required readings :  
We work with the following methods:
- Nieuwe Start 2, De Boeck - newspaper "Wablieft"(http://www.wablieft.be/krant/wablieft-krant) - Coursebook 2nd Bachelor and coursebook Thematic Vocabulary (which are available at the Centrale des cours, rue Louvrex, 14)
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Continuous evaluation:
  • for the presentation of articles (1/10)
  • for the vocabulary tests (1/10)
Exams:
  • written exam in January (3/10): vocabulary and grammar exercises, listening and reading comprehension, writing expression (Nieuwe Start 2: chapters 1 to 6 + sections 1 to 6)
  • written exam in June (3/10): vocabulary and grammar exercises, listening and reading comprehension, writing expression (Nieuwe Start 2: chapters 7 to 10 + sections 7 to 10)
  • oral exam in June (2/10): press file of 5 articles from Wablieft + 2 sections seen during the year
NB: A student who does not present one of the tests, obtains 0/20 as a global mark.
