Course contents :

| To survive, innovate and grow, an enterprise must control its value generating processes. Business process management, gestion des processus d'affaires, belongs naturally to the indispensable tool set of any manager. On the other hand, the information technologies' ubiquity, leads her to evaluate their potential contribution to the optimization of those processes. Therefore, it is very important to master tools to
- Describe business processes with a language both understandable for managers and usable by computer specialists.
- Predict their performances by simulations,
- Generate immediately executable workflow applications from the models,
- Monitor ans control running applications.

Learning outcomes of the course :

- After taking this course, students will be able to
- Define the concepts of information systems, business process and modelling technique,
- Draw business processes schemas, specifying their conceptual and functional aspects, using the EPC notation,
- Identify situations where a methodical and phased approach, assisted BPM tools, is necessary in an IT project,
- Participate, as a knowledgeable user, in the development of an information system, mostly during its analysis phase.
Intended Learning Outcomes addressed by the courses :
- Gaining the knowledge and understanding of one of the following fields: supply chain management, financial engineering, performance management systems or intrapreneuriat; being able to mobilize them in order to solve concrete management problems or cases
- Ability to speak 2 foreign languages: C1 in English and B2 in one other language
- Understanding and being capable of using project management methods
- Understanding and being capable of using modelization methods when seeking a solution for a concrete management problem
- Providing concrete solutions to a management problem, integrating a dimension of technology, innovation or production
- Being capable of professional team work

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Essential principles of programming, databases, management inforµation systems, ERPs. These prerequisites may have been acquired in mandatory courses INFO0076-1 « Computing in management engineering : partim II » et INFO0934-1 « Management Information Systems ». |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| Activities :
- Simulation game : discovery of BPM's concepts and stakes with IBM's INNOV8. Short introduction in computer labs; autonomous on-line group work. [0,5 ECTS]
- Theoretical courses : short lectures about concepts, techniques and set tools. Traditional course in class room; individual work. [1,5 ECTS]
- Problem solving based on a case of a workflow development intended to support the business processes of a small organization. Start-up and debriefing of exercises in class; groups work between classes . This case will serve as a guideline in all exercises of the course. Students will play the role of a junior analyst. [0,5 ECTS]
- Exercises : discovery of a BPM software tool. Monitored work in computer labs. [0,5 ECTS]
- Final project : case chosen by the students. Completely autonomous group project. A written analysis report is handed out and presented during the simulation of a decision meeting at the end of preliminary analysis. [2 ECTS]

- Theory : individual oral examination. [30 %]
- Final project : group oral examination. [50 %]
