Course contents :  
This course constitutes at the same time an introduction as for the big tropical landscapes (essentially on Africa) and a first approach of participative management.

Learning outcomes of the course :  
Starting with lectures by experts in natural ecosystems management and reviewing articles that express opposite opinions, management methods based on local participation are presented to the students. After completing the course the student is expected to propose methods that reconcile social, ecological and economic aspect for a participatory sustainable management of tropical ecosystems. He must be able to use an assement grid allowing to estimate quickly the observed level of participation. He must finally be able to develop a critical mind and begin a reflexive approach on participation .

During the course, different publications are distributed among the students.
