Course contents :

| This course introduces to sustaibale development in four stages :
1. the concept of development and the way to sustainable development : conceptual and historical aspects
2. three dilemmas of sustainability :
- prevention / precaution
- non renewable resources : preserve or substitute
- equity and growth
3. Major challenges :
- climate change
- biodoversity
4. Theory and practices of the transition. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| Toi understand th concept of sustainability, its ambiguities, its dilemmas and to explore an intervention method towards sustainable development.
Sudent will bne able :
- to sketch the historical stances of the concept
- to define sustainable development regarding to othe theories
- to define the main concepts included in sustainability (precaution, participation, solidarity, and so on)
- to critically examine biodiversity and climate change
- to explain theoretically and practically the theory of transition |

| Six half days of presentation by the teachers |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| This course is a three days module that will consist of
- three detailed lectures
- small groups discussion on the basis of documlents from science, media and other sources. |

| Four files of documentation will be available. |
