Course contents :  
As an introduction course to criminal law, this course situates criminal law in the historical, social and juridical sphere.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Following themes are dealt with :
- the historical development of criminal law and its philosophy ;
- the sources of criminal law ;
- the basic principles of criminal law ;
- the application of criminal law in time, space and towards the person ;
- the crime : the constitutive elements, the classification ;
- the punishable attempt and the punishable participation ;
- the punishment.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Introduction to judiciary law. Criminal law. Criminal law procedure

Practical cases
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Ex cathedra lecture during the first part of the year.
Tutorials : Exercices sessions.
Recommended or required readings :  
Students have a book, which is available to Faculty of Law's Legal Editions (1st part only to study). This book is subjected to regular updates, in order to be as near as possible of the current events.
Students have to acquire by themselves an exemplary of the Penal Laws.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Written exam in january 2013, may-june and august 2013.
