CHIM9221-1  Advanced techniques in nuclear magnetic resonance of biomolecules

Duration :  15h Th
Number of credits :
Master in Chemical Sciences, in-depth approach, 2nd year2
Master in Chemical Sciences, didactic approach, 2nd year2
Master in Chemical Sciences, specialized approach, 2nd year2
Lecturer :  Christian Damblon
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
All year long
Course contents :
The course is a practical application of NMR techniques studied in the course on Structural Analysis (CHIMI0650). After a lesson summarizing the theoretical principles and practicalities of different NMR experiments, students will be asked to record themselves their own experiences protein in solution interacting with ligands.
The proposed experiments are the following 1D 1H with water suppression, 2D HSQC (HN).
Learning outcomes of the course :
Objective 1: Acquiring the ability to record adequately all NMR experiments required for the analysis of biological macromolecule in water Objective 2: To understand the spectral information obtained by applying a sequence of pulses. Objective 3: to choose experiences tailored to their research.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Course on structural analysis: CHIM-0213 Course on Structural biological Chemistry CHIM-0650
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Practical work on the NMR spectrometer. Preparation of the biological samples. Analysis of the spectra with appropriate computer programs : TOPSPIN-CCPNMR
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
The course schedule will be determined with the students according to the availabilities of each and the availability of the spectrometer.
Recommended or required readings :
course CHIM-0213 (structural analysis) cours CHIM-0650 (structural biological chemistry )
Assessment methods and criteria :
Written report on the analysis performed by the students.
