| CHIM0656-1 | Organometallic Catalysis

| Duration : | 15h Th |
| Number of credits : |
| Lecturer : | Lionel Delaude |
Language(s) of instruction :
| French language |
Organisation and examination :
| Teaching in the second semester |
Course contents :
| This advanced course aims at presenting in-depth recent developments in organometallic catalysis and to help students understand how to critically analyze the scientific literature. |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| At the end of the course, students will be able to identify the different types of olefin metathesis reactions and the transition metal-based catalysts used to promote these reactions. They will also be able to determine the scientific value of an article from the literature, to summarize correctly its content and to present it orally. |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| Notions of organic synthesis, organometallic chemistry, and catalysis. The knowledge of English is required. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| This course is made of two parts. The first part consists in a series of lectures devoted to the advanced study of organic reactions catalyzed by transition metal complexes, with a focus on recent developments in olefin metathesis and related reactions. It ends with the screening of a video recorded during a conference of Prof. Robert H. Grubbs (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2005) at the University of Minnesota. In the second part of this course, each student receives a recent article from the literature that he/she has to analyze in a critical way and to present in front of the class during a brief seminar. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| This course will be given during the second quadrimester. The exact schedule is to be determined according to the availability of all participants. |
Recommended or required readings :
| Detailed lecture notes written in English will be available as pdf files and handed over to students during the first lesson. The scientific articles used for personal work will be available at the science and engineering library. |
Assessment methods and criteria :
| The assessment will consist in the presentation of a brief seminar (15 minutes) on a recent literature article, followed by questions & answers. |
