Course contents :  
The course focuses on the biology of planktonic organisms as they are at the basis of most aquatic ecosystems and are of paramount importance for the global production of ecosystems.

On the basis of an extended knowledge of the organisms' biology the different types of trophic chains and their functioning will be detailed.

Water quality asessment and management will also be considered:
1. The European framework directive will be explained and the practical aspects will be presented;
2. Cyanobacteria and algae toxins problems into surface waters will be approached.
