Course contents :  
In continuity with Social and Cultural Anthropology I, this course concentrates on the theories that have become influential in anthropology since 1950. First, we will return to the old debate between rationalism and romanticism, which is at the root of two opposing approaches to culture in anthropology. Next, we will cover theories of culture that developed within these two traditions of thought during the second half of the 20th century. These different approaches will be illustrated by concrete case studies taken from various ethnographic contexts.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To introduce students to theories of culture in anthropology. At the end of the course, students will be able to discuss the light that each theory can shed upon the cultural questions of our time.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Students must have completed the course in Social and Cultural Anthropology I, appreciate theory, love reading, and have a high degree of curiosity.

The course consists in face-to-face lessons.
Recommended or required readings :  
A copy of PowerPoint presentations to be used in the course will be posted on the MyUlg portal. Students will also receive a collection of readings.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Arrangements for the examination will be announced based on the number of students. Grading will depend on course material and readings.
