Fire prevention

This course is about fire risks in buildings.
The conditions in which a fire starts, develops and and can lead to flash-over will be explained. Some information will be given on the legal system in Belgium with regard to fire prevention. It will be explaineed how a building structure has to be conceived in order to develop a satisfactory behaviour when subjected to a fire.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Fire prevention

At the end of the course, the student will be able to identify situations that may lead to a severre fire, to identify structures that may have an unsatisfactory behaviour in case of fire and to find his way among the main lines of the legal system in Belgium.

Elementary notions of structural mechanics and heat transfer

The teach explains the notions with examples when possible. the students are encouraged to interact by their questions.
