Course contents :
Paragraph #64 of the "décret Bologne" of the French Community of Belgium reads : "All University study programs leading to a grauate degree must comprise a Final Year Work (FYW) accounting for 15 to 29 credits. This FYW concerns any teaching activity, including training, practical and other professional-learning activities, to emphasize the following qualities of the students: autonomy, criticism, personal qualities and professional competences. The FYW comprises at least a written manuscript." All information regarding the organization and the realization of the FYW, the presentation and the explanation of the assessment criteria, the recommendations to the authors for the manuscripts of the 2nd and 3rd GMV and for the oral presentation at the end of the 3rd GMV, the different contact email addresses and the deadline to send the documents are present on the website of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (file "GUIDE du TFE").
Learning outcomes of the course :
The FYW must allow the tutors and the students to appreciate the level of metacognition of the latter (= to know how one learns and what one knows; to learn to know oneself during the learning process). The purpose of the FYW is therefore far beyond a simple restitution procedure of professional competences.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
The FYW is spread over two years: 2nd and 3rd GMV. During the 3rd GMV, the student continues his/her work with an "illustration" of the theme of the literature review performed in GMV2: presentation and discussion of experimental results, of clinical cases, of a more detailed review of the literature ... The work during the 3rdGMV must be performed all along the academic year. Ideally, one illustration should originate from the external (extra-muros) training period and a second one from the training period in the Faculty clinics (intra-muros). Two weeks are foreseen in the program to finalise the work and to write the final manuscript. In addition to the written document, the work of 3rdGMV comprises an oral defense, with an oral presentation in French (10 minutes) and answers to questions in French (5 minutes). The oral defense will happen at the end of the academic year, according to a timetable that will be determined, in front of an examination board of the department comprising 5 members, including the tutor. The number of exemplars of the written form of the manuscript to bring to the administration and the precise date will be mentioned in the "GUIDE du TFE" and "Calendrier du TFE" found on the website of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. One exemplar in pdf format will be sent by email to the administration using the nomenclature at the address indicated in the "Calendrier du TFE" for archiving. Note that the definitive title will be transcribed onto the diploma. The recommendations to the authors for the manuscript and for the oral presentation are described in the "GUIDE du TFE". Cover pages should be downloaded from the same website.
Assessment methods and criteria :
The assessment of the FYW in 3eGMV is subdivided into:
- the assessment of the quality of the work in general by the tutor, more especially the evolution between the 2eGMV and the 3eGMV: improvement, re-direction, perfecting, ..., as much of the form than of the content (20%);
- the assessment of the manuscript (form, content, etc) by the tutor and by two reviewers members of the examination board (30%);
- the assessment of the oral defense: oral presentation, ppt slides, answers to the question (50%) The different evaluation forms should be downloaded from the website of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Organizational remarks :
For pedagogy and organization reasons, the FYW can be proposed as an isolated course only exceptionally, and only with the agreement of the tutor.
