Course contents :
 |
| Training of students is achieved through pig farms visits, necropsies and practical workshops.
Students also learn to use a software for swine health and herd management. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| The Swine clinic prepare students to face to situations met by pig veterinarians. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Theoretical courses given in BMV and in GMV 1 and 2 are necessary prerequisites. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| Objectives are :
Farm visits:
To initiate students to the approach of a clinical case
Necropsy:
To use necropsy as a complementary tool for diagnosis
Practical "Slaughterhouse":
To use visits to the slaughterhouse as a complementary tool for diagnosis or health control
Practical "Computerized management of pigs herds":
To use a software of swine herds management to evaluate performance and/or to establish a diagnosis
Practical "Groups of sows":
To visit a herd equipped for housing pregnant sows in groups
Practical "Parasites":
To diagnose and know to treat parasitic infestations with Ascaris suum, Isospora suis and Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis
Practical "Pet pigs":
To initiate the students to the clinical examination of pet pigs
Practical "Sow":
To know the main stages of reproduction control in swine herds
Practical "Administrative role of pig veterinarians":
To initiate students to vet activities related to the administrative management of pig herds. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
 |
| The evaluation of students is organised as a written examination with questions in connection or not with clinical cases eventually illustrated by slides or short videos, together with the clinic for ruminants and cattle farms visits, giving 2 different marks at the end of the year. |

Organizational remarks :
 |
| The attendance to this clinic is systematically verified. The cause of any absence must be communicated by phone or by E-mail before the beginning of the clinical activity. Otherwise, the absence will be considered as not justified. Not justified absences will be taken into account by the jury at the time of deliberation. |
