Course contents :  
The seminar on the international relations of the West Mediteranean has as objective to introduce the students to the main contemporary political issues of the great Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania). The proposed approach is multi-disciplinar and draws its interpretative tools of the international relations of the region from political science, history, sociology, anthropology and economy among others. The seminar is subdivided into six main themes: the external relations of the European Union with Maghreb countries, the political systems of the region, the regional conflicts, the question of political islam and the issue of migration.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The main objective of the seminair is to offer a panorama of the main contemporary geopolitical issues at stake in the Maghreb. More specifically, it seeks to provide the students with tools allowing them analyse the regional situation by identifying the structural determinants of the main geopolitical stakes, their historical continuity or discontinuity.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
There is no specific prerequesite for attendance to this seminair
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
A written assignment of maximum 10 pages is expected from the students. It consist of analysing and commenting a book (i.e. either a scientific book or an engaged essay) selected from the bibliography that will be circulated during the seminar.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The seminar takes place during the second semester every Monday from 14 to 16H. Place to be determined
Assessment methods and criteria :  
The evaluation is done on the basis of the oral defense of a written assignment (See section "Travaux pratiques")
