| The main theoretical chapters are as follows: Introduction 1. Variability of the atmosphere 2. Radiative processes and energy balance 3. Thermostatics 4. Atmosphere fundamental equations 5. Theory of atmospheric movements (geostrophic approximation, thermal wind, atmospheric waves, etc) 6. The planetary boundary layer (atmospheric turbulence) 7. Saturation and condensation processes 8. Large-scale atmospheric circulation 9. Circulation in extratropical zones (fronts) 10. Numerical modelling and forecasting

| The objective of the course is an introduction to atmopheric dynamics and meteorological processes.

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Good knowledge of mathematics and mechanics, basic knowledge of fluid mechanics. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| Exercises linked to the various chapters. Visit of a forest micrometerological site and illustration of acquisition and processing of meteorological data at this site. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| The course is given on the first semester. It is organised in a series of 3-hour lectures on Monday morning and sometimes on Tuesday afternoon.
