Course contents :  
The seminar "Migration and development" seeks to introduce the student to the study of the interaction between international migratory movement and processes of development. It starts from a multi-discriplinary approach and seeks to allow the students to get acquainted to the diversity of approaches in the field. After a theoretical introduction concerning the main theories of international migration, the seminar will cover, through lessons given by both the teacher and external speakers, the issues of remittances, the economic impact of migration on sending countries, as well as on environment. The seminair will also deal with the question of transnationalism, diasporas and eventually migrants as co-development actors through presentations of practical experiences
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The objective of the seminar is to allow a greater familiarity with the diversity of theoretical approaches of migration and development and to allow students to lead a multi-disciplinary reflection on these questions
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
A good passive knowledge of English is required
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
A writting assignment is expected from the students. It consist of analysing and commenting a scientific book selected from the bibliography that will be circulated during the seminar.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
This seminar will be organised for the first time in 2009. No information is yet available about the practical organisation of the seminar
Assessment methods and criteria :  
The evaluation is done on the basis of the oral defense of a written assignment (See section "Travaux pratiques")
