| The software "Statistica (Statsoft)" is used extensively throughout the course. The main graphicals techniques (histograms, box plots, cumulative diagrams, scatterplots,...) and tools of descriptive statistics are presented. Position and dispersion parameters (mean, median, percentiles, range, standard deviation, variance, Gini dispersion, entropy,...) are reviewed.
A particular look is given to statistical estimation: least square and maximum likelihood estimators, confidence intervals (including multiple). The classical parametric and non parametric tests are presented using Statistica. Depending on the background in statistics of the students, some more advanced statistical techniques are investigated using "Statistica" ( analysis of variance, multiple regression and selection of variables, analysis of covariance, survival analysis, logistic regression, log-linear analysis). |
