| a) Theoretical courses The main aspects in entomology bases will be developed: weather effect on insect physiology, insect population dynamics, insect dispersion and migration, insect feeding behaviours, particularly in the plant-pest-beneficials trophic relations. An @-learning module is used to illustrate these theoretical part.
b)Practical courses They will focus on insect systematics at different taxonomic levels : the main orders and families in general, the main kinds of crop pests will be investigated for their identification but also the related damages on crops.
An insect collection is realised by the students in order to (1) apply in a practical way their ability to observe, trap and monitor insects, particularly in crop fields and surrounding areas, (2) use the dichotomic keys for insect identification. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| The main objective is to teach the bases of systematics in entomology for insect identification and to understand the ecological characters of these organisms. After completing the course the student is expected to - use the dichotomic key for insect identification at different taxonomical levels (order, family, genus), - recognize an insect at first sight up to its order taxonomical level, - identify an insect at its family level, using particular morphological characters, - identify some pests and beneficial insects at their genus and species levels, - associate the ecological knowledge on common insects (habitats, feeding behaviours,...) - identify biotic and abiotic factors involved in insect population evolution in general, and pests and beneficials in particular, - use the suitable methods to monitor and trap insects for their occurrence observation in agro-ecosystems. |
