Course contents :  
The course is intended to the study of the bases of the atomic and molecular physics. We teach
  • Atomic magnetism. The spin.
  • Radiofrequency spectroscopy : EPR and NMR
  • The lasers (principles + description of various lasers)
Learning outcomes of the course :  
  • To teach the bases of the atomic and molecular physics
  • To teach the fundamental laws governing the behaviour of the atomic constituents.
  • To teach some experimental techniques used in the determination of the atomic and molecular properties.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The practical classes (15h) deal with
  • L'amplification lock-in
  • Rubidium absorption laser spectroscopy (hyperfine structure)
  • NMR Spectroscopy (2 afternoons) - Molecular structure studies
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course is given in the first and the second quadrimestre according a schedule distributed at the beginning of the year.
Recommended or required readings :  
Notes are distributed at the beginning of the course.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Written examination (theory + labs). Weighting: 75/25.
