This course consists of a scrupulous reading of a major work on the history of philosophy. The supervised exercises carried out collectively in class are also the subject of individual exercises during two or three lessons.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The aim of the course is to enable students to analyse and rigorously explain a philosophical text, both within the framework of a collective oral discussion and within the framework of personal written piece of work. In concrete terms, this means particular attention is paid to improvement in the students' reading and argumentation capacities, as well as their aptitude to writing a philosophical dissertation.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course pays a great deal of attention to student participation. They are invited, in turn, to take responsibility for the reading exercise. At least two sessions are dedicated to the formative assessment of the students acquired knowledge, based on exercises with the same requirements as those of the exam.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
See http://cipl82.philo.ulg.ac.be/horaires
Recommended or required readings :
This course requires students to read the work to be studied in class beforehand. Some classes will be the subject of more general presentations, often completed with additional documents.
