Course contents :  
Partim 2 will be subdivided in two parts:
1.The second part of partim 2 will be devoted to the great classics of pharmacognosy: toxic plants that contain alkaloids, cardiotoxic glycosides...that are still used in medicine just as they are or after derivatization
2.reflexions on phytotherapy with a smattering about traditional medicine and informations about recent developments of phytomedicine.Classification according to the main pharmacological effects of these plants.The student will be able to distinguish variuos pharmaceutical forms ( crude drug, extracts, tinctures..)because the amount of active principles varies according to the nature of extraction solvent.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To treat the education of pharmacy students thanks to the multidisciplinary field of pharmacognosy: -informations about phytochemical classes and metabolites (active principles mainly);- description of plants used not only in medicine but also in food and cosmetics; -survey of the main toxic plants of our environment; -pharmacological interest and limitations of medicinal plants used in phytotherapy; -specific methods of quality control in pharmacognosy described in European Pharmacopoeia (drugs, extracts, essential oils, fixed oils...)...

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
PRACTICALS: Objectives: Identification of some medicinal plants described in European Pharmacopoeia ( macro- and microscopical examinations) and seminars about their use in medicine Place: Laboratory of pharmacognosy (3d floor of Pharmaceutical Institute)
Schedule: All Wednesdays, starting in February, in 2 or 3 groups.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Half-year 6
Generally Friday and Wednesday.
Some lectures are included in seminars.
